The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine provides innovative care for Iowa's children. Our dedicated faculty and health care teams make a difference in the health of Iowa's children and families by bringing evidence-based medicine to every day practice and providing access to specialty care when needed.

Education

As part of the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa, the division provides exceptional training to residents, medical students, and nurse practitioners who will lead pediatric care in the years ahead.

Research

General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine research areas include Reducing Excessive Variability in Infant Sepsis Evaluation (Project REVISE), prospective evaluation of functional outcomes in adolescent low back pain, the creation, organization, distribution and evaluation of digital health sciences libraries, and more.

Clinical Care

Our expertise ranges from basic childhood patient care to managing more complex medical needs. Our Diagnostic Clinic assists community providers with children with diagnostic challenges or complex care. 

The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine has a certified child car seat safety inspector and promotes education, communication and training for children and families. We also promote communication between families, physicians, and day care providers. 

We provide child protection services, palliative care, and child advocacy.
