PEDIATRIC CRITICAL CARE INTENSIVIST

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks an intensivist.â¯Appointment rank is open and may be to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest.â¯Appointment rank to Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure) may also be considered.â¯The individual selected will join the Division of Critical Care Medicine to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a pediatrician specializing in pediatric critical care medicine.
The Division of Critical Care is committed to providing excellent clinical care, education of learners at all levels, and the advancement of knowledge through pursuit of biomedical research. Clinical care is provided in a 28-bed combined medical/surgical and cardiac intensive care unit, including highly specialized management of the intensive care population and patients requiring ECMO, renal replacement therapies and VAD support. Annually, our PICU admits approximately 1500+ children. We are a level 1 trauma center and burn center. We have representation from all the pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties. The division presently counts to 14 faculty (3 with further training in Cardiac Intensive Care, 1 with further training in pulmonology), 8 fellowship positions, and 8 nurse practitioners. Our critical care team is focused on the delivery of excellent clinical care, with patient satisfaction scores consistently greater than the ninetieth percentile. The quality of care provided in our Intensive Care Unit is analyzed by participation in the Virtual Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Performance System (VPS) for benchmarking and data sharing.

The Division of Critical Care is committed to providing excellent clinical care to neonatal, pediatric, and young adult patients and their families for the state of Iowa and surrounding areas. Our cardiovascular program is the largest program in the state of Iowa with 300+ annual admissions and 500-600 cardiac catheterization/EP procedures provided by 2 pediatric cardiac surgeons, 2 pediatric interventional cardiologists, and 2 electrophysiologists. Clinical care is provided in a state-of-the art 28-bed combined medical/surgical and cardiac intensive care unit in a multidisciplinary care approach in collaboration with our cardiology and cardiovascular surgery team. Our program delivers the full range of services including highly specialized care to children with heart defects including ECMO, VAD support, and a cardiac transplantation program. Our division presently has 14 total faculty with 3 cardiac intensivists, 6 critical care fellows, and 6 – 8 nurse practitioners. Our cardiac critical care faculty, in collaboration with the pediatric cardiac critical care nurse practitioners and our specialized bedside nursing staff, are focused on the delivery of excellent clinical care, with patient satisfaction scores consistently greater than the ninetieth percentile. The individual selected will join the Division of Pediatric Cardiology to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a Pediatric Cardiologist and serve as a trainee in Pediatric Electrophysiology with 80% time spent training in imaging and 20% time spent support the general pediatric cardiology clinical programs.

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks an inpatient gastroenterologist.â¯Appointment rank is open and may be to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest.â¯Appointment rank to Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure) may also be considered.â¯The individual selected will join the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Pancreatology and Nutrition to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a gastroenterologist.
Specific duties include the following:
- Inpatient Gastroenterology Focus: Work closely with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), medical students, residents and fellows to provide care for patients admitted to the GI service and consult service.
- Procedural Focus: This position allows you to focus on performing inpatient procedures such as endoscopies and other GI-related interventions.
- Call Schedule: Share call schedule with other providers to ensure adequate coverage while maintaining work/life balance.
- Provide comprehensive clinical care to pediatric patients with gastrointestinal, liver, nutritional and pancreatic disorders, including IBD, Celiac disease, and other conditions.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary care teams, working alongside specialists from various disciplines.
- Perform a range of procedures including endoscopies in dedicated pediatric endoscopy suite or children’s hospital OR.
- Contribute to the education and mentoring of medical students, residents, and participate in teaching of fellows in the division’s ACGME-accredited fellowship program since 1996.
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities to maintain clinical expertise and knowledge.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of Pediatric Gastroenterologists, Advanced Practice Providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in the treatment of complex pediatric GI cases.
- Optional participation in departmental research initiatives to advance the field of pediatric gastroenterology.
- Maintain a high level of patient satisfaction through compassionate care, communication, and dedication to improving patient outcomes.
The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Pancreatology, and Nutrition is committed to providing the highest available level of care to children with disorders of the digestive system, liver, and pancreas. Six physicians, 2 APPs and three nurses are accessible and responsive to patient needs.

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a pediatric cardiologist for our Des Moines, Iowa location.â¯Appointment will be a open rank clinical track position. â¯The individual selected will join the Division of Cardiology to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a pediatric cardiologist.
The Division of Cardiology at the University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics provides compassionate, family-centered, and state-of-the-art delivery of care to children and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. Patients are followed through the transition to adulthood.â¯Dedicated staff have expertise in acquired heart diseases such as cardiomyopathies, cardiac arrhythmias, blood lipid disorders, congenital heart disease, cardiac dysfunction in malignancy, and cardiac implications associated with pediatric obesity. The division provides the only expertise for electrophysiology, diagnostic, interventional and transplant services for children and youth in the state of Iowa. Skilled surgical support and exceptional critical care postoperative support has outcomes that have excellent results in national databases. The division has a multi-purpose diagnostic and interventional procedure lab which is constantly expanding and including state-of-the-art technologies.â¯

The Director will lead the division’s clinical, educational and research missions as well as provide leadership and mentoring to our growing general pediatrics and adolescent medicine faculty. The Director will benefit from institutional resources and will have the opportunity to expand both the clinical and interdisciplinary research program.
The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine has a long history of providing innovative care for Iowa's children. The dedicated faculty and health care teams want to make a difference in the health of Iowa's children and families by bringing evidence-based medicine to everyday practice and providing access to specialty care when needed. The division provides exceptional training to residents, medical students, and nurse practitioners who will lead pediatric care in the years ahead.
The division also provides child protection services, palliative care, child advocacy and child policy, and promotes communication between families and physicians and day care providers and physicians. The division also has a Diagnostic Clinic that assists community providers with children with diagnostic challenges or who have complex medical needs. The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine has a certified child car seat safety inspector and promotes education, communication and training for children and families.

The Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics is committed to excellence in providing comprehensive services for children, adults and prenatal patients in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of genetic conditions. The Division's multidisciplinary team is comprised of board certified medical geneticists, a molecular genetic pathologist, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, genetic counselors, nurses, and dietitians.
