Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine Fellowship Program at University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital.

We are committed to training the next generation of academic pediatric pulmonologists, both those whose aspirations are to be clinician educators and those aiming for tenure track investigator positions.

We seek to develop the academic leaders of the future by attracting, recruiting, inspiring, and training intellectually curious individuals to become innovators in the field of Pediatric Pulmonology. We will do so by providing the environment for a fellow to discover and develop their own strengths in the fields of research, teaching, and/or clinical care.

  • Asthma
  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia
  • Childhood interstitial lung disease (chILD)
  • Cystic fibrosis and Primary ciliary dyskinesia
  • Exercise related shortness of breath and vocal cord dysfunction
  • Non-CF bronchiectasis
  • Respiratory insufficiency and technology dependence
  • Sickle cell related lung disease
  • Tracheostomy and ventilator dependence

The Iowa Difference

The Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Program provides the fellow with a comprehensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of pediatric breathing disorders and make the fellow familiar with the unique needs of children with chronic lung diseases. In addition, fellows are taught the scientific method of critical thought and analysis, and are trained for a career in academic pulmonary medicine.

We pride ourselves in helping fellows become well-rounded and insightful pediatric pulmonologists who excel in clinical medicine and research. Above all, our goal is to equip you to succeed in any career path through clinical experience and personalized mentorship, while embracing the unique humanity that allows each of us to provide exemplary and compassionate care for our patients.
